This semester

This semester has been a battle. Not just for me, but for almost everyone I know -especially sophomores. The sad thing is, I think many of us tried to fight through it alone. All we really had to do was turn to each other and ask for prayer or encouragement and it would have been more than happily given…but even as I’m typing this I’m wondering how true that is because in my heart I know how selfish I can be. 

As the semester winds down, for some reason T.S. Eliot’s poem The Hollow Men comes to mind. There’s a line at the end that says that the world ends not with a bang, but with a whimper. Is that what this semester is ending with? A whimper? Actually, I think it’s something more of a sigh. 

It went by really fast…There was barely enough time to notice if someone was hurting….and when you did notice and try to reach over and wipe away their tears you realized that there were fifty other people around you who needed tears to be brushed away…and you tried to hurry and move on to the next person without realizing that all the while you were suppressing tears of your own…and then you really just didn’t care anymore, and by the end of those few moments the semester was over and now you’re sitting here not studying for finals and  wondering how things should have been.

A theme for this semester is ‘God is faithful.’ By theme, I don’t mean something we’ve learned. I mean it’s something that is true…has always been true…and will continue to be true, even when we don’t know what it means and we can’t see it.
